A history…

The existence of Château de Pondres is attested to in 1195 in the will of the Lord of Anduze.

The Château was owned by the great families of Anduze and Ganges in particular. Its layout and interior design have evolved over the centuries.

Like many monuments in the Gard region, Château de Pondres was plundered and burnt down during the French Revolution.

Joseph Isidor de Montlaur returned to his land at the beginning of the 19th century, to inherit it.

Raymond Archambaud de Montlaur, Joseph Isidore’s son, was responsible for the complete reconstruction of the south wing, and including a complete reorganisation of the rooms inside.

The Château fell into disuse throughout the 20th century. In 2006, the Château and its grounds were sold to the current owner, who undertook a huge 10-year restoration programme with the help of the Conservatoire des Monuments Historiques.
